Gain the knowledge and skills to confidently take on a role in high-level network design, configuration and management. Students will also gain foundational skills needed for other Information Technology areas such as programming, web technologies, computer services and computer troubleshooting.

Students will be trained as network administrators according to current industry practices, network hardware, software and virtualisation technology.

The qualification covers a wide range of content in relation to career opportunities in:

  • local area networks
  • wide area networks
  • protocols
  • network topologies
  • transmission media
  • web development
  • security

Elements of the program will be project-based, giving students the opportunity to work as part of a team in a real-world environment. This will include the installation and configuration of network hardware/software such as:

  • cabling
  • power management systems
  • switches
  • rack-mounted routers
  • rack-mounted servers
  • VOIP phones
  • wireless access points
  • Virtualisation of Hardware using:
    • VMware - Player/Workstation then later using ESXi
    • Microsoft Hyper-V VDI ( Townsville Only)
  • Server administration functions and services using multiple operating systems such asWindows, Linux etc.
  • Microsoft Academy
  • scripting/batch file to reduce repetitive processes

Cairns Only - Students will undertake the Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching course as part of the Diploma. Our practical lab has all the required needs for CCNA training and will prepare you for rollout within a business Course details

Entry requirements

Prospective students should complete the self-assessment checklist (located above under the Relevant documents section) to determine which course would best suit their experience. Applicants may need to attend an interview prior to enrolment.

Students will be expected to have computer skills including basic operating systems, computer hardware, an understanding of office applications (word processing, spread sheets and power point). You will be required to attend an interview to determine current skill level.

There are no prerequisite requirements for this qualification, however, English and math’s skills equivalent to year 12 level are recommended.

International Student specific entry requirements:

English: For students whose first language is not English, the required minimum English language levels is IELTS 5.5 or equivalent, with no individual score less than 5.0 or equivalent assessment.

Academic: The minimum requirements can be one of the following:

  • Certificate II or III – 10 years of schooling (or equivalent) with passes in mathematics and English
  • Certificate IV or Diploma – 12 years of schooling (or equivalent) with passes in mathematics and English
  • Mature –aged entry with work experience in a related field

45 weeks (39 weeks of full-time delivery plus 6 weeks of holidays).

Important Information

Please note that when packaging the Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology (ICT30115) (CRICOS Code 086494F) with the Diploma of Information Technology, Networking (ICT50415) (CRICOS Code 086643J), students are advised to commence their Certificate III studies in the second semester (July start) as the Diploma runs for 12 months and only commences in the beginning of the following year (February).

After you have accepted your Offer of Place, you will receive your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and with your CoE you can apply for your student visa. You will need to arrange your student visa before you come to Australia.

Orientation

Compulsory Orientation: All students must participate in compulsory International orientation on the Friday before classes commence.
